missouri state capitol restroom renovations

New rest room facilities were designed to replace all oudated public facilities on the first four floors of the Capitol. The existing toilet rooms had been renovated in the 1970's and had lost all historical context to the 1917 Capitol Building. Men's and women's facilities were studied and modified to achieve parity in terms of fixture numbers. The new toilet rooms were designed to be appropriate to the Capitol Building era. The design utilizes historic materials, motifs and design philosophies, while meeting ADA compliance. Marble toilet partitions, restoration of high borrow lites, custom nickel plated light fixtures and Missouri Red Granite countertops were specified along with infrared toilets and faucets. This juxstaposition blends low maintenance modern technology with design details that appear to have
been constructed 100 years prior.
